Surat Aviation Blog is now active

Surat Aviation blog is now online. This blog has been started by the administrators of the Facebook Group "We Want A Working Airport at Surat".

Surat may have the dubious distinction of being the most under served metropolis by airlines.
It is practically non existent with just a laughable formality of 6 flights a week to the national capital New Delhi. This translates to a capacity of 420 seats per week for a metropolis with a population of 5 million people.

The nearest functional airports that citizens from Surat use are Vadodara (4 hrs / 150 km away) and Mumbai (6 hrs / 300 km away). Due to repair work at Bharuch Bridge, it is taking very long to drive to Vadodara with vehicles queuing up for upto 30km on either side of the bridge. There is no immediate solution to this problem other than having more air connectivity from Surat.

There are a number of lobbies that are against air connectivity for Surat and they have sufficient political clout to succeed in stymieing efforts for more connectivity. Being unknown lobbies, it is very difficult to raise voice against them. However the effort continues and will continue not only till there is more air connectivity, but also to sustain what comes our way.
